  • Profile

I am Head of Studies Sciences at the Amsterdam University College (AUC). In this position I am responsible for the development, implementation and management of the Sciences curriculum at the AUC. I am also involved in teaching. For more information on AUC please visit our webpage

I obtained a PhD in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Biology in 1994 from Utrecht University. Subsequently, I was a post-doctoral fellow at Oxford University until 1997, after which I moved back to the Netherlands to become a Royal Netherlands Academy for Arts and Sciences fellow. Since 2005 I was Assistant Professor in Population Biology and Theoretical Ecology at the University of Amsterdam, and since 2009 I have been Programme Director of the Bachelor Biology.

My research interests are broad, including the origin of life, the dynamics of infectious diseases, the evolution of cooperative behaviour, and the consequences of spatial self-organization and collective behaviour.
