Peter de Ruiter to be appointed new IBED director
Professor Peter de Ruiter will be appointed professor of Soil Systems Ecology at the UvA’s Faculty of Science and director of the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED). He will assume his duties as IBED director with effect from 1 October 2014, taking over from professor Peter van Tienderen, who has been appointed Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science.

Currently, professor Peter de Ruiter is professor ad personam at the Biometris institute in Wageningen. He previously worked as full professor of Environmental Sciences at Utrecht University and academic director of the Centre for Soil Ecology in Wageningen. Peter de Ruiter has published numerous scientific articles and was recently granted a personal Von Humboldt Stiftung scholarship to fund collaboration with his partners in Berlin.
Professor De Ruiter is already known within IBED as the chairman of its Scientific Advisory Committee. In addition, his expertise - the ecology of soil systems - is closely related to the research conducted by IBED's Earth Surface Science group.
