Joint research on Water Sciences in the Netherlands

Initiated by UvA and VU

21 September 2015

Amsterdam Water Science is a joint research programme of the UvA and VU on Water Sciences in the Netherlands. This initiative integrates research from more than 110 fulltime researchers at the Amsterdam-based universities on the biological, chemical and physical processes in water (aquatic life, water quality, floods and droughts).

The programme starts with a two-day symposium on 25 and 26 November 2015: 'Aquatic systems under pressure: Global change and human impact'

The contributors will examine how extremes in these processes affect society and what measures governments and the private sector can take to manage water quality, flood risk and water shortages. It aims to have Amsterdam as a laboratory for education and to create synergies between research, teaching and businesses.
