Bart Hoogendoorn

Soil consultant at Tauw

Bart Hoogendoorn

What is you function?

Two months after graduation I found my current job as soil consultant. In this job I coordinate soil surveys which are executed by Tauw to measure the quality of the soil and groundwater. Due to human and industrial activities in the past the soil and groundwater is contaminated at a lot of locations.

To what extent do you use the knowledge and skills learned during your master’s programme in your current job?

Most of the knowledge I currently use in my work were not obtained in the master’s programme. There are in some extent related subjects. In terms of skills I still use GIS software for processing geographical data. Other skills I use today that were initiated during the master’s programme are handling and interpreting large quantities of data and writing reports in both Dutch and English.

Where would you want to be in ten years and what would you hope to do there?

In ten years I hope to have progressed to a more multidisciplinary function. In this function I would like to study global subjects/challenges like drinking water scarcity, climate change, sea level rise and durable energy.
