This week a book was published by Theunis Piersma, Willem Bouten, Carl Zuhorn and Petra de Goeij, in which the life story of a spoonbill called Sinagote is being told.
This book concerns a female from Vlieland with the word 'Sina' in her name, the Breton name of the village where she travels every autumn. This story is about much more than spoonbills. It is about the connections between spoonbills themselves, but also about the connections between areas in Europe and Africa and between people who live and work in the areas. In a combination of love story and success story, Sinagote tells the life story of a spoonbill about the importance of looking, thinking and acting beyond our national borders when protecting our migratory birds.
