Jan Sevink will receive the Emil Luden Medal for his exceptional efforts in research into the history of the soil and landscape in the Gooi and his contributions to the protection and restoration of nature in the region. During his career he has published more than 300 scientific articles, many of which relate to the Gooi. His insights based on thorough soil research have led, among other things, to the successful remediation of soil contamination in the Laarder Wasmeer and the restoration of unique nature reserves, such as Zanderij Cruysbergen, the Gijzenveen and the Monnikenwater.
In addition, he played a key role in the development of provincial policy for the designation of geological monuments and he contributed to the development of a cycling route along 30 geological sights in the Gooi, making the geological history of the area accessible to a wide audience. . Even after his retirement, Jan Sevink remained actively involved in various research projects and initiatives that contribute to the conservation and development of the Gooise nature. For example, he has recently been involved in research into the use of rock flour to reduce the effects of nitrogen on nature. About the Emil Luden Medal The Emil Luden Medal was established in 1982 by the Stad en Lande van Gooiland foundation in honor of Emil Luden, the first independent chairman of the former association Stad en Lande van Gooiland. The prize is awarded to persons or organizations that have made a contribution to the history and tradition of the Erfgooiers and the preservation of cultural heritage. The award ceremony takes place annually during the conclusion of the Week-of-the-Erfgooier, in the second week of October.
