The entry, titled Arctic migratory birds pushed over the edge, is nominated in the Environment Category (Professional Track), highlighting its contribution to communicating IBED’s research to broad audiences. From 10 February to 10 March, audiences worldwide are invited to vote for their favorite StoryMap for the Community Choice prize.
The website was created for the research project “Vulnerability of Arctic migratory birds to rapid climate change,” led by the Netherlands Institute of Ecology and IBED. The project investigates how accelerating climate change is affecting migratory bird species that rely on Arctic ecosystems, which are among the most rapidly changing environments on Earth.
The interactive platform translates years of academic research into a visually engaging and accessible format. By combining maps, narrative, and scientific data, the story map aims to reach stakeholders, policymakers, and the wider public. This approach reflects a growing expectation among funding agencies that research should extend beyond academic publications to inform the public about urgent global challenges such as biodiversity loss and climate change.
The full story map, available in both English and Dutch, can be accessed online and includes links to the project’s publications.
