Langerhuizen Onderzoeksbate prize for Carina Hoorn

Carina Hoorn, associate professor at IBED, was awarded the Langerhuizen Onderzoeksbate prize on 15 September for her research on the history of the Brazilian Amazon. Carina is involved in an upcoming scientific excavation in 2023, which will offer a unique opportunity to reconstruct the history of the Amazon rainforest.
Carina’s research is focused on gaining insight into the transition from the climate optimum (15 to 17 million years ago) to climate cooling (from 14 million years ago). In addition she tries to create a better understand on how cyclical changes from sea to coast to land and back affect the forest in the Amazon. The results will contribute to the historiography of the Amazon region and provide more insight into the origin of biodiversity in the region.
After receiving the Langerhuizen Onderzoeksbate prize, Carina was interviewed by the Koninglijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHMW). The full interview can be read here (NL).
